Channel 4's Dogging Tales was a controversial documentary about ordinary people with an interest in an activity many cannot comprehend.

The programme proved a hit on Twitter (where it trended worldwide) and in the ratings; an average of over 2m overnight viewers for a programme in the 10pm hour is very good indeed.

Rather embarrassingly for Hilary Devey, it beat her much-hyped new Apprentice-like series The Intern, which was on the same channel an hour before. That could only manage 1.3m viewers.

But what Dogging Tales also did was bring out the humour in an agog audience that included Alan Carr, Angela Griffin and Sarah Millican. We've rounded up a selection of the banter that made Dogging Tales one of the most tweeted about TV shows on Thursday 4 April.
