Desperate to show he is a changed man, Derek decides to get a proper job and starts work at Branning's car lot. Jack (Scott Maslen) is fuming when he realises Derek bumped up the customers' monthly payments and tells him this proves he will never change.

I agree with the posts that he is an obnoxious individual, but then I guess there are people like him around, unfortunately.
My grievance, is Eastenders is sending out the wrong message in letting Ben get away with what he has done - surely,
sooner or later this has to be addressed. I personally can't stand the character, he is a useless actor, and always has
the same 'expression' on his face, whatever the story line? Please put him away for a long time!

think they are holding out on ben to leave till christmas, they always lower the tone at christmas with depressing story lines, hopefully when ben goes we will have something to smile about. as for derek, well sooner he leaves the better.

He is the worst baddie i've seen for a long time. At least Phil is kind of convincing, Derek is like a pantomime gangster who steals kids lunch money. Not convincing at all! One headbutt and he'd be on the floor!

the fact that people despise him is only a sign of how well he has adapted to his character-as someone has said-he is, and was, a real life gangster-read his autobiography-he draws on real-life experience to add to his character, however unlikeable that makes him.
better than most of the so called "ACTORS" on there.

I think Alice is better off without her dad. Never liked his character as soon as he was introduced. Having been an avid Eastenders fan, I now don't care if I see the series or not!

Surprisingly Derek is turning out to be someone to feel sorry for in a way. At the beginning his character was really laughable and not to be taken seriously. Now he has become a lost character who only wants to be loved. The actor who plays him is always playing a hardened thug in other things.
