Just days after Simon Cowell's return to the X Factor panel, he has confirmed that Nicole Scherzinger is taking herself off it. The former Pussycat Doll, a favourite with fans, apparently wants to get her music career back on track.

It's a move that echoes Jessie J's decision to leave The Voice - the Brit also cited a desire to re-focus on music. Nicole is eager to get busy recording her new album, reports The Sun. It will be her first new material since 2011 hit Killer Love.

Confirming the news over Twitter, Simon Cowell said she would always "be a part of the X factor family."

The Hawaii-born beauty joined US girl group the Pussycat Dolls in 2001 – they notched up a string of top hits including international smash Don’t Cha and Buttons. Nicole eventually went solo, enjoying hits such as Don’t Hold Your Breath and Boomerang.

In 2010, she was invited to be a guest judge on X Factor here in the UK. During her short stint, she made a huge impression with the press and the viewers.

What's more, she helped to create the show’s biggest ever success story: One Direction. It was Nicole who suggested Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis - who'd originally auditioned as soloists - should join together as a band.

Her first year as a full-time X Factor panellist came in 2012 and saw Nicole emerge triumphant as the winning judge when James Arthur was crowned winner.

In addition, she gave us some hilarious moments as a judge - or maybe I should say, she gave us some 'scha-mazing' moments. All that table-slapping and hand-waving, the "No, baby no!" exclamation and the look of utter bewilderment on her face as Rylan Clark broke down crying in front of her - for ages - after being told he'd made it to the live shows.

I for one will miss her. She has been sch-mazing.
