The Voice UK: what we know

First look at contestants - Toni Warne

BBC1's The Voice UK will see four acclaimed recording artists seek out the nation's best vocal talent. The BBC obviously hope The Voice UK will be the new X Factor; here's what we know so far...

Recognise this singer? Alopecia sufferer Toni Warne previously turned up on television via legendary talent show, Opportunity Knocks. The 34-year-old went bald in her twenties, but she's never given up her dream of being a major recording artist. In this Saturday's launch show at the blind auditions, she gives a superb rendition of Someone Like You. Apparently, will.i.am was the only coach not to turn around and buzz for her.

What else do we know about The Voice UK? See this gallery for more details.

Lord Lucan.you are an idiot. - a hypocritical ignorant stupid stupid man.  Not in what you say about bald men- there is no way that advert should be seen as funny. But what the hell are you doing calling her a slaphead? It's EXACTLY that which makes it hell for people with hairloss. It is awful for men who lose thier hair if they struggle with it - many dont. There are no women or girls who can deal with that easily. If you would like to comment on her voice, that is what she is putting herself up for so fair play... but to go into her alopecia - an autoimmune condition so hard to live with makes you a moron.

Okay, all you moaners are probably right, life should be taken a lot more seriously and yes, some of these reality shows are drivel.
Wink  But I quite like the odd bit of drivel. Real Life is too much sometimes, I need the distraction !

Usually takes me a few weeks to warm to a new programme but this kicked in quite fast for me.  If you know about music, you'll have respect for the judges, especially for the legend that is Tom Jones.   (Tho Jessie J is a bit up herself, will she still be around this time next year like the other three? Hmm...)    But I enjoyed it and the good humoured banter.   Looking forward to next week.

Why the empathy and sympathy for a bald woman that sounded like an average pub singer. Bald men have the pis* taken out of them, mainly by women, and are constantly called slap heads. There is an ad, for grass seed, at the moment with the wife telling the husband to seed the lawn ( so much for no job differentials ) then she slaps the top of his head and makes a snide remark about would it work anywhere else. Oh so funny, the fact that a supposedly intelligent woman would think you can plant grass seed into someone's head?

Ads are always demeaning men, I make a point of not buying those products.

Why is it funny if a man goes bald but not a woman?

I thought she was a slap-head who couldn't sing that good. She forced notes out to the point of shouting, that seems the modern indium, and the melodious notes were lost. Why sing when we have got use to people shouting and being called singers? Then there was the screamer and the Bowie wannabe. If this show is the best they 'got' I don't hold out much hope for the rest of the series.

Hi !! Cosmic Dave ...Why do people like you who think they are proper musicians have to slag off people who enjoy life and like having a go at Karaoke....I admit, they may be a few who try a number for the first time and get it horribly wrong, but there are a good percentage , with the help of the professional backing tracks make a damned good and entertaining job of it....I bet you have a little squeaky voice and have to hide in a group. You would probably be s--t scared to get up and perform solo....

It's ok, 22 million pounds for this or.... the licence fee and another £22.50 a month to watch f1 uninterrupted. Thanks for making my choice bbc

Oh NO! Please, NOT more 'reality' rubbish. Television planners have finally capitulated to the lowest possible common denominator with an excess of US led drivel. Even the broadcast films are mostly of the lowest quality and, as for the garbage often dished up to children's television...........

Where have all of the good programme makers gone?

More talent show rubbish. I'm confused about one thing though, there have been so many talent shows on tv that surely anyone with a fraction of talent has already been on one?

But there is a simple solution for all of us that has been working very well for me for years. Ignore them. They don't go away but it is possible. I don't read tabloid newspapers. I don't listen to the radio because I don't like the music on it. I don't have to, there are so many alternative forms of media available now that there is always something else to watch/listen to/read. So instead of getting all angry about it all ignore it. I read this article because I was interested to see if this was going to be something actually different. It looks like it won't be so from now on I shall ignore it.

The BBC make their money from us watching the programme, the more people watch it the more they can get the government to increase the TV license fee

it is about time the licence fee was abolished and the bbc made to fund itself like any other private company.

I have just read a lot of the comments.....Please!!!!! I have been to the recording of the shows, and yes it,s a new concept, but why is everyone slagging it off before they have even seen it... It may work it may not, but who has the right to judge without even seeing it yet...

Have to say all of the Judges as such have a pedigree in the music business, but this show isn't about music, like every other 'Talent' show on tv it's about money, the bbc have got a new show to try and claw some of the money back from the X-factor, the majority of the people that go on these shows don't have a hope in hell of getting anywhere in the music business and we all know that. How many winners or contestants on the X-Factor or similar shows have had any amount or real success, the answer is very few. The BBC make their money from us watching the programme, the more people watch it the more they can get the government to increase the TV license fee, Universal are giving the winner a £100,000 prize and a 1 year recording deal, and no doubt the winners first record from the show is part of the deal, and that is where Universal will make their money, if the Voice get say a 4 million audience, it's almost guaranteed that they will sell a large number of that first single, and the revenue they make from it will cover the prize they are giving out, and the amount of advertising they get from the show is priceless for them.

And for those 'Artists' saying the shows are crap and real singers and performers don't get a chance well lifes like that sometimes, but i am sure you could get on BGT if you are really any good, and if it is something you really want then keep on trying every outlet you can think of, if it's meant to be it will happen.

And just for the record i don't really like these shows on tv, i sometimes watch the auditions for the amusement value, i am definately not an avid viewer, and i certainly have never and probably would never buy one of the show singles, or goto one of the tours, so my comments are purely from a person not connected with the music business, just a common schmuck giving an honest opinion :D

People like myself who are in 'proper' bands laugh at this type of show. I'm sick and tired of listening to the whining 'Singing is all I've ever wanted to do' crowd. If that were the case, why aren't any of them in a band already. It's surprising how many Karaoke hogging individuals think how great they are when in fact they haven't got a clue about stage craft or presence.

I think its about time a proper music contest was created where 'real bands' perform. No miming or backing tracks - proper instruments played by people who have strived to get noticed for years. Not your 2 second escalator to fame with one audition.

Let some of these wannabe's go to some of the clubs that have crowds who are hard to please. It's not just given to you on a plate.

Kate Harris -

" Its a known fact that looks plays a big part in society, the voice may be amazing and will make an impression, but the artist needs both"

Anyone who needs to look pretty to sell records isn't an artist, they're a product.  If you want to understand the difference between an artist and a product, check out TuneYards.

Lenny kravitz isnt a "hero" i wouldnt even call him one of my favourite artists, i thought it would be good with him because he atleast has musical talent.  it also has nothing to do with being closed minded i like most forms of music, the only so called "artists" i dont like are the manufactured, bog standard people that dont sing without atutone, mime when they perform live, dont play any instruments and dont write their own songs- therefore giving them no right to judge others as theyve got where they are by appearance not talent which is why i said tom jones being a judge is fair enough.

plus (this is gonna sound insulting, the turth normally does) but if you think that the likes of jessie j and william actually have talent then you dont know what real musical ability is

Weird that you chose to try & pull musical rank, only making the show credible if one of your own heroes participates !
I am not a fan of all of the judges, but they are all talented in their own right & none would be pathetic talentless mimers by their own standards, it is only the constraints of tv land that demands lipsynching. The judges you mention can cut the mustard in my view & all are perfectly able to perform live & have a great deal of talent, just because they do not fit your chosen genre is not a reason to diss them.
You need to broaden your horizons & maybe listen a little bit, then you may know what you are talking about !
