Robbie Williams has revealed that he was "gutted" to lose his X Factor guest slot to Cheryl Cole, who he jokingly called "a bit of a slapper".

The singer had been tipped to appear alongside his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow in the judges' houses episode of the ITV1 show, but in a surprise twist, the Girls Aloud star was given the mentor role instead.

However, Robbie pledged he would be back on screens in the new series, telling Capital FM: "As long as there is an X Factor, there's going to be a Robbie Williams on the X Factor - as long as people are still watching it.

"I'll do whatever they want me to. I'm looking forward to more wonderful times with whoever they want to put me with."

The father-to-be, who is expecting his first child with wife Ayda Field, quipped about giving their unborn daughter a showbiz name.

"As a celebrity couple we're supposed to call it Aubergine or something like that aren't we?" he joked.

"I do have a semi sort of celebrity name but it's not Apple-esque. It's a very solid old-school name. Really old-school. I think I only know one other of this name, but you've got to see the child before you go 'Yeah, that's her name'."
