Smith 'jealous' of Capaldi's plots
Matt Smith said he is jealous of Peter Capaldi's upcoming storylines in Doctor Who
Matt Smith has revealed he is "jealous" of Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who storylines.
The 31-year-old star, who left the BBC sci-fi show in 2013, admitted he is envious of what showrunner Steven Moffat has in store for his successor during an appearance at the Calgary Expo in Canada.
''I've got a deep-seated jealousy... I rang Steven Moffat up the other day and found out everything about the new series. It sounds really good! I was really jealous actually," he said.
Matt left his role as the Time Lord at the end of the 2013 Christmas special, regenerating into Peter after a four-year stint in the Tardis, and Peter will make his full debut as the Doctor when the show returns for the eighth series later this year.
The actor appeared at the question-and-answer panel alongside co-star Karen Gillan, who played his companion Amy Pond.
She admitted that being the sole female on set didn't always work to her advantage, because her male co-stars would play jokes on her.
"I was at the receiving end of most of the pranks, because I was the only girl. Matt used to hide in my trailer. I would go in and wouldn't know he was hiding in the corner, and he would jump out really aggressively screaming absurdities. It was really scary," she recalled.
Matt previously said he hopes Peter will not be better than him in the role during an interview at Wizard World in Minneapolis.
"Will he be better than me? I hope not," he joked, adding: " (Peter) will be different, and it will be a different show and it will be a new show and that's what Doctor Who is about, and I've got to let it go. And the great thing about it is everyone has their own Doctor."
