Scarlett: Maddie should be example
Scarlett Bowman thinks Maddie was right to wait
Hollyoaks actress Scarlett Bowman has said she agrees with her character Maddie Morrison's decision to wait before sleeping with her boyfriend.
The soap star - whose wild child alter-ego imposed a three-month ban on herself getting intimate with boyfriend Callum - said she hoped sixth form student Maddie's behaviour would set a good example.
Scarlett said: "Sleeping with your boyfriend is a big deal for a lot of girls, and it's the same for Maddie. I think a lot of girls jump into it head first without really thinking about it.
"They get caught up in the heat of the moment, when in fact it's quite a wise thing to do to sit back and really get to know someone first."
Scarlett said she hoped Maddie and Callum's three-month ban would help keep young viewers from feeling pressured into taking a relationship to the next level.
"I would certainly back up the three-month rule. I wouldn't put a definite time frame on it, but I think it's a good idea to wait.
"Especially when you're a young girl in your teens and just getting to know someone, you'd hate to regret taking the step too soon. Waiting lets the guy know how much you like him, and it gives you time to work out whether he's up for the relationship or not. Guys are wired so differently to girls so it's not half as big a deal for them as a whole.
"You've got all the time in the world to get to know someone, but if you get intimate too soon you can't take it back."
