More strife for Corrie's Tyrone

Things are set to get even worse for Coronation Street favourite Tyrone Dobbs, producer Phil Collinson has revealed.

Tyrone (Alan Halsall) has been suffering from domestic abuse at the hands of his pregnant fiancee Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede), and soap boss Phil warned the plot is set to delve even deeper.

He said at the TV Baftas: "Natalie, the Weatherfield basher has got a big story coming up this summer. Let's just say Tyrone's going to be well bruised."

Corrie scooped the award for best soap and continuing drama at the awards bash, and Phil admitted he hadn't expected to win.

"It's always a surprise because you don't allow yourself to think you've won or you'd just go home disappointed," he explained.

Meanwhile, the TV executive said he wasn't a big fan of scripted reality shows such as The Only Way Is Essex.

He confessed: "I don't understand them, I don't know how they're made. I don't know why people watch them, but I applaud them for being so popular."
