Ex-EastEnders starlet Emer Kenny says she's a bit baffled as to why Fatboy Chubb is a heartthrob.

The 22-year-old, who has written her first full-length episode of the BBC soap, starred alongside Ricky Norwood's alter-ego in EastEnders spin-off E20, in which she portrayed Zsa Zsa Carter.

"I think it's weird that girls absolutely love him. It's all about the personality. I love Ricky and I absolutely adore him but Fatboy as a character is such a clown," she said.

Emer admitted her friendship with Ricky may have coloured her views, saying: "I know that character so well because of E20 and acting alongside him for so long, he can be a total clown basically. And I'm not sure if I can go out with a clown."

In the soap, Fatboy has enjoyed romances with Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) and Faith Olubunmi (Modupe Adeyeye). Hetti Bywater has also said she'd like to see her character Lucy Beale and Fatboy together.

"I really liked him and Whitney - I thought they were really good together. But I don't see anyone on the show at the moment that I think he should be with. Maybe they need to bring someone in," said Emer.

Emer, who is also writing episodes for Holby City and Doctors, admitted she's nervous about the episode, which airs tonight (May 8).

"I'm a bit nervous, but also excited. It's my first time writing for mainstream TV, and EastEnders is a different league and gets more viewers than E20. It's daunting and scary," she said.
