Jane: Motherhood Leanne's one skill

Coronation Street's Jane Danson has said being a mum is the only thing her character Leanne Barlow is really good at.

The estranged wife of Peter Barlow has a shady past and a string of failed relationships behind her, and dreams of having a baby after having an abortion and a miscarriage. She now has custody of alcoholic Peter's son Simon, but he is threatening to take the child by force.

Jane told the TV Times: "Peter's actions threaten to destroy her dream of motherhood, and being a mum is the only thing she's really good at."

Still reeling from the shock of Peter's affair with Carla Connor and his lying about going to rehab, Leanne is set to rekindle her relationship with ex-husband Nick Tilsley.

Jane revealed: "She desperately wants a family unit, so she settles for Nick. That's like a red rag to a bull for Peter, who already hates Nick for having an affair with Leanne.

"Peter's a loose cannon. he really gives Leanne cause for concern, and something quite devastating happens which means she has to reassess the situation and ask, 'It this my fault?'"

Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter is taking a four-month break from the show, sparking rumours his character will try to kidnap son Simon.
