James Martin's live cooking nerves

James Martin has admitted he still gets nervous about cooking on BBC One weekend show Saturday Kitchen.

The chef, 39, has been on the small screen since he was spotted when he was in his twenties.

He said of the live show: "It's not easy, especially now that we're looking for chefs further afield. You realise these people are your ex-bosses or your food heroes."

He added: "It'd be nerve-wracking enough to cook with them in their own kitchen, but to do it on TV can be terrifying.

"People at home may not know who Thomas Keller is, but in the industry, he's one of the true legends."

James said he hadn't continued dancing following his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2006.

"My knees are hurting now... I was a young nipper then. It doesn't get any easier - doing the paso doble is like doing the service in a kitchen, your knees start to hurt after a while," he said.
