Ice champ Matthew stuns judges
Matthew Wolfenden has been crowned the winner of Dancing On Ice
Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has been crowned king of Dancing On Ice for this year.
Matthew and dancing partner Nina Ulanova defeated Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter and Matt Evers in the eyes of the voting public as each performed a version of Ravel's famous composition Bolero, to claim the honours at the end of the three month ITV1 series.
Their efforts were highly praised by show coaches Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who made Bolero world famous with their gold medal-winning performance in the 1984 Winter Olympics.
Christopher said of the version by Matthew and Nina: "It was sublime. Matthew's exhausted now, he's put his heart and soul into it." And Jayne said of Jorgie and Matt: "It did us proud."
One of the three judges, Robin Cousins, said of Matthew's routine: "It was a privilege to watch it." Louie Spence, another of the judges, told Jorgie: "You do these slow lyrical dramatic routines so well, and you've outdone yourself."
Matthew said after winning the show: "That's going to take a few days to sink in, I can't believe it, I'm shaking."
Jorgie said: "I can't think of anyone better to be up against, I'm so happy for them" - and burst into tears.
The versions of Bolero came at the end of a grand final which saw one-time X Factor hopeful Chico Slimani voted by the public into third place.
Each of the three contestants collected a maximum 30 marks out of 30 for one of their two dances.
Each contestant performed a "showcase" number, which they had helped to choreograph and style, then each did a favourite dance from earlier in the series.
