Former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson is to front his very own cooking show.

The 47-year-old actor played nurse Martin Platt in Corrie for 21 years, but left in 2005 and set up the award-winning Saddleworth Cheese Company four years later.

Now Sean will present Great Northern Cookbook, a four part series on Channel 5 which will see him embark on a gastronomic tour around the towns of northern England.

Sean will explore the food heritage of each town he visits and take on a series of challenges, judged by the toughest critics - the local residents.

The former soap star will attempt to cook ancient recipes without using modern gadgets, tackle the difficulties of sourcing ingredients himself, try and recreate local dishes and even take on local rivals in a bid to outsell them with his own food.
