The Loose Women and former Coronation Street star has recently concentrated her efforts on reality TV, on Dancing On Ice and Celebrity Big Brother.
She said: "It would take me five years in a drama to make what I did on Celebrity Big Brother, but I do want to concentrate on doing more acting."
Denise, who has also appeared in Waterloo Road, Down To Earth and Soldier, Soldier, said she didn't have any regrets about Celebrity Big Brother, despite clashing with US actor Michael Madsen.
"I try not to regret anything. I don't regret it because I found out a lot about myself, some things I liked, some things I didn't," she said.
"I found out that I actually like quite a lot of things about myself. I never thought I was a hypocrite or a bully and I reaffirmed that with myself, because I was in there with people who were both," she said.
Denise, who has just published a new book, said she doesn't regret exposing her breasts in a hot tub on the show.
"I can't understand the furore that it caused. I wouldn't do it again and we were all tipsy. If I'd have been b****y, nasty and two-faced, that's what I would have regretted," she said.
:: Starting Over by Denise Welch is published by Sidgwick & Jackson, priced £18.99. Available September 13.
