Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent has insisted her character Sophie Webster won't turn straight just for the sake of a new storyline.

The 20-year-old actress plays teenage Sophie, who realised she was gay when she fell for friend Sian Powers. But Sian fled the Street after their civil partnership ended in disaster last year. Sophie is set to befriend bad boy Ryan Connor when he returns to Weatherfield from university and he will reportedly get her involved in drugs.

But Brooke told The Sun that Sophie and Ryan won't be anything more than friends.

She said: "I don't want to be straight. I don't think the producers want her to be straight either. Being a lesbian has made so much of an impact on her, and it's not a phase for most people.

"So it's all right saying, 'Oh well, it's all right for storylines', but they can't exactly make her not gay again - that doesn't work."

The soap star also joked she'd love Sophie's next girlfriend to be sexy singer Rihanna.

She said: "She's single and ready to mingle! I'd have Rihanna as her dream girlfriend."
