Corrie's King: I'm ready for break

Alison King has revealed she's looking forward to spending quality time with her family during her break from Coronation Street.

The actress has had a dramatic year playing factory boss Carla Connor, and her character is set to leave the country for a few months with new boyfriend Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

"It's three years since I had a baby (daughter Daisy Mae) and I've been working for all of that time so I haven't been able to spend too much time with my family," Alison told What's On TV.

"I plan to have a nice holiday and spend time at home getting jobs done on the house, all very normal stuff. But I love playing Carla and I'll be back at work on October 1."

Alison - who picked up the best actress gong at this year's British Soap Awards - joined Corrie in 2006 after starring in football series Dream Team.

Carla has had a turbulent year with her rape ordeal storyline at the hands of Frank Foster, and Peter's current custody battle with estranged wife Leanne.
