Corrie's George: I relate to Beth

Coronation Street's Lisa George has revealed she has some similarities with her soap alter ego Beth Tinker.

The actress plays brash, flirty factory worker Beth on the show, and admitted she could empathise with her character's background.

When asked by Digital Spy whether she could relate to Beth, she said: "Definitely - from when I was poor and working in a factory! I understand what it's like to struggle for money."

Lisa also said she loved sharing screen time with Weatherfield villain Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford.

"Oh God, I love those scenes. I love working with Kate Ford, and I think we've got a really good chemistry together," she said.

The soap star - who has been nominated for best newcomer at the Inside Soap Awards - confessed she never thought she would become a regular on the show when she joined last year.

"All I knew was that I was contracted for two episodes, so that's what I concentrated on. I never imagined for a minute that the character would come back - it didn't even enter my head. It was a huge shock when they said that they might bring me back. I couldn't believe it, really!" she explained.
