Richard Bacon says there's a crucial difference between his new show and the likes of The X Factor - his participants aren't "delusional".

The 36-year-old is hosting Hidden Talent, a six-part Channel 4 series in which people attempt to take a newly discovered talent to its limit.

"If you enter The X Factor then you already have the belief that you can sing and presumably that you're good at it and could be a global superstar," Richard said.

"Whereas the people who come to our shows are not delusional. They're people who aren't sure what gift they have."

The show's nine participants took part in rigorous tests, overseen by scientists and academics, and were found to have special physical, mental, sensory or creative talents of which they were totally unaware.

They were taken under the wing of an expert to hone their skill in linguistics, free diving, lie detecting and opera singing.

:: Hidden Talent continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday, May 1.
