Ade brands TV soaps 'unpleasant'
Ade Edmondson is not a soap fan
Ade Edmondson believes soaps are bad for British TV, and described them as "full of unpleasant people".
The TV funnyman, who found fame playing Vyvyen in BBC comedy The Young Ones, told Reader's Digest that soaps like Corrie and EastEnders don't do TV any favours.
"Can someone tell me what's wrong with a bit of feel-good telly?" said Ade, who is married to Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders.
"Haven't we got enough selfish, aggressive programmes? The soaps are full of unpleasant people.
"If you watched an average week of British TV, you'd come away thinking we're a nation of murderous, drink-driving, egotistical con-artists. I'm sorry, but this country's not like that. The vast majority of us are decent, funny and friendly."
Ade, who has three grown up kids with wife Jennifer, is preparing for the release of series two of his UK travelogue The Dales, which will be shown on ITV.
The March issue of Reader's Digest is out on February 28.
