10. Back from the dead - When news leaked that Dirty Den Watts was to return to EastEnders in 2003 (despite being killed off 14 years previously), fans of the show took a collective gasp of disbelief. Some unsatisfactory nonsense about his hiding from 'the Firm' all these years explained his death away. But it was a bridge too far for most viewers and - following actor Leslie Grantham's infamous internet sex scandal - Enders bosses responded by killing Den off for good in 2005.
