Ken Barlow has had dozens of relationships in his time on the cobbles, including four marriages, and Bill has said Ken's complicated lovelife had caused him problems in real life. Bill Roache famously revealed he'd bedded around 1,000 women, including Corrie soap legend Pat Phoenix.
Talking to Piers Morgan on his ITV1 talk show, the Corrie veteran admitted his infidelity caused the breakdown of his first marriage and left him "regretting and hurting". Well, who'd have thought this of Bill Roache?
They say no one character is bigger than Coronation Street; however this man, whose face has become wholly identified with the soap over decades, is the greatest test of that assertion. Happy 80th, Bill!

Agree, splendid for his age. Looks 65. watched that first episode and subsequent. Have gone years without watching, been indifferent, hated and loved it. Stiil watching presently. Many happy returns Bill or should that be William if the namesake is too close to home?
