William Patrick Harry Roache, MBE is 80 years old. We all know him best as Coronation Street legend, Ken Barlow. We pay tribute to this remarkable actor in our gallery showcasing his life in pictures.
Bill Roache has achieved something in television that no other actor has matched. He is the only member of the current cast of Coronation Street to have appeared in the very first episode; to notch up half-a-century in any sort of job is an amazing achievement in this day and age. In addition, the Guinness Book of Records now recognises him as the longest-serving actor in a television series. A unique feat.

Agree, splendid for his age. Looks 65. watched that first episode and subsequent. Have gone years without watching, been indifferent, hated and loved it. Stiil watching presently. Many happy returns Bill or should that be William if the namesake is too close to home?
