Miriam Margolyes left Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am stunned on the Graham Norton Show after the 71-year-old actress said she was pleased to meet him because he was black.

She added: ''Unfortunately, I don't know many black people' and ''We don't get to meet across the colour line much except in showbusiness and that's what's so nice.'

After an awkward pause, Will.i.am burst out laughing and the two began to exchange banter in what has become one of TV's most unlikeliest double acts ever.
