In fiction, anything is possible. Characters can meet a grisly end, yet be brought back to life. We take a look at several examples of miracle TV resurrections.
Millions of viewers saw Sherlock Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, apparently die after falling from a building. But in the final shot of second series finale The Reichenbach Fall, the cunning sleuth is revealed to be alive. We'll have to wait until the third series to find out exactly what happened...

Sherlock is the best series on the box for a long time and Benedict acts it perfectly but....at the end of the day it is a STORY however many times he 'dies' and comes 'back to life' again !! Enjoy it for what it is.

@SCOTT LAMBI - Don't have a pop at the rest of us for enjoying a top class piece of television. If you haven't the intelligence or the interest to appreciate it for what it is then that's your own rather limited and sad affair.

There are others in TV there's Jordon Collier in 4400 , Angel in Buffy Stabbed and sucked into hell in season 2 then back in season 3, Daniel Jackson in Stargate SG1. I think Dr Who's latest death scene where River Song shoots him and it takes whole season to learn the trick was interesting. Then there's itcy and scratchy they seem to die each time we meet them.
In films you get a few more - Harry Potter, Gandulf etc.
What will be intesting is if Moriarty comes back - Criminal mastermind, so many fake indentities could he not have had a double?
In the Conan Doyle books he reappears in the Valley of fear but no real explanation is given as to how he is not dea

Did not see the first series but have to say this one has been great, a real modern twist on a classic as far as I'm concerned. I like the way there is more than one focus to the plot. Both Holmes and Watson are portrayed brilliantly. Can't wait for the new series to start. Like many I'm guessing the girl from the lab collides with Watson and the drug is somehow administered. Looking forward to the new series already. Can't help thinking the hound in the last episode was a bit on the tame side, with modern cgi I was expecting something more realistic than a shaved rottweiler!

right okk, ILOVESHERLOCKK!!!!!!!!!! its not stupid its clever, you can tell that its to do with the bikee hing when he gets knocked down. im pretty sure that sherlock is pals with all the nurse people and that he has threw Moriarty off the roof&when john gets knocked down by the bike sherlock gets covered in fake blood&pertends hes dead. God i love this show. &scott lambie, we obv think its amazing so noone wants you to tell us to stop watchin it. Also, Benedict Cumberbatch is a babe

First off the Fourth Doctor's (Tom Baker) died by falling several hundred feet after saving the universe (who can survive that) and Rory Williams never died. After being shot in 'Cold Blood' before dying was swallowed by a crack in time and changed to a new life as a Roman. Then being shot in 'Day of the Moon' it wasn't a bullet it was a tranquilizer. Then in 'The Doctor's Wife' the tardis was taken over and whilst Rory and Amy were running through it they got separated and Amy was put in a semi-alternate reality where Rory ages progressively and brought back to normal soon after. Hence absolutely no reason to place the two characters in this list

I wasthrilled to see lots of you agreed with me.
But in a way I also agree with Scott Lambie in sofar as there is so much rubbish on the TV just lately.
I am sick to the back teeth of 'reality TV' and I didnt like soaps when they were gentle observations on human life, let alone their current unrealistic ratings-chasing garbage.
Sherlock was well made by talented people, to be enjoyed by the masses- everything telly should be.

Master criminal shoots himself. Mmmm wouldn't that sort of show up somewhere even if Sherlock threw him off the roof? I thought the ending was pretty poor. A simple line of code that can open any vault, security systems yaddaa. Poor.

I know how he did it played all your minds.
when he told him to look at him he made him think he was going to jump then threw the body other then as Watson run other the girl run into him with the bike made Watson bang his head so he was disorientated so his mind played tricks on him he believed it was sherlock so when the hitman saw Watsons Face it was good for them to call the hit off.
Sherlock new and played the game and won brill in i......lol

Sherlock used the drug from the baskervilles episode the week before on watson, it was given to him by the cyclist who knocked him down, watson saw what he believed to be holmes falling( we don't see the body jump, just fall) He see's Holmes because that's who he expects to see, all along its Moriarty!!

It couldn't have been Moriarty, as a convincing mask would need a lot of work and time to fit. The faller was definitely alive.
I live in Holland so I can't watch BBC iPlayer to check, but i am pretty sure a lorry was obscuring the landing, we see it pull away as Watson gets up, this may be part of the plan involving Molly. Sherlock said he needed her, but we didn't find out why.
I Loved the (way too short) series. BBC make the best TV in the World.
