Jessica Raine has quit the BBC’s hugely successful series Call the Midwife in order to try her hand in Hollywood.

The 31-year-old actress was recently seen in BBC2’s gripping cop drama Line of Duty as the ill-fated Detective Constable Georgia Trotman;.

Following bit-parts in the likes of Garrow's Law and Robin Hood, Jessica landed the role of Jenny Lee in Call the Midwife. The popular Sunday night production has made her a household name and raised her profile on both sides of the Atlantic. She appeared in Doctor Who and played Verity Lambert, its legendary producer, in 2013 drama An Adventure in Space and Time.

Talking to the Daily Mirror, she said: “I am really up for playing someone a million miles from Jenny, much as I love her. I would like to explore comedy, I want to do more theatre and I definitely want a future in film. I love science-fiction.”

Jessica makes her final appearance as Call the Midwife’s Jenny at the end of this current third series, airing Sunday 9 March.
