Ian Hislop: Ricky Gervais makes me turn off my TV

Totally agree with Ian Hislop i would rather chew tin foil and stick needles in my eyes than watch R.G......TOTALLY UNFUNNY. Chris Moyles also makes my list for becoming famous as he made his reputation by being a sexist pig

R.G.He is as funny as one has just discovered that one has terminal brain tumour. How the British public pay good money to go and see this useless idiot perform is beyond imagination!!

@ Christine Fox you are about as funny as Gervais!!!! I have never liked him as a comedian or whatever he is supposed to be but to use minorities to prove your point is ridiculous..... Going by your reckoning number 4 applies to you so you should apply to BBC now and get your millionaire salary!!! PS Derek was on Ch4!!!!!

I think this is Gervais' great floundering - as per Johnathon Woss with THAT answerphone message - he should realise his ability lies as a writer, and as a performer of an exaggerated pain-in-the-butt such as David Brent was in The Office, and the character he played in Extras, which had flashes of real brilliance to it - as a stand-up, I find him VERY poor, and in making the faces and mannerisms of one who is 'not-quite-with-us' in this new Derek show,  I think he has just completely mis-judged the level of cruelty in the country - it doesn't matter that critics are panning it, what matters is the public are as well.  There are comics on panel shows who ad-lib with real flair, genuinely funny people - Gervais is trying to push a little too-far here - we AREN'T going to laugh at someone who apparently isn't wired-up correctly. 

I am with you 100% and there are many more like him i.e. someone that looks and calls himself a Lemon and so so many more, like everything else in this country with have lost the plot, all these dam so called free view channels repeat after repeat.

The BBC would be the most anti drugs out of all the broadcasters! As for "are you gay" well what the **** does that have to do with anything?! are you 12? because an adult wouldn't find that funny, or say it was a bad thing. Plus the BBC probably hires the least openly gay people because they have to try and keep conservative morons like you happy.

I agree with Hislop. Gervais' comedy is just not funny becasue it lacks any comic vaule. It's edgy for the sake of being edgy, which is not funny. Hislop is a man I find funny becasue he plays out his "naive upper class" role on HIGNFY which is genually funny becasue it touches on how some people actually are.
