Friends character Monica Geller described as ‘slut’ and a ‘trollop’

Rex
Monica Geller was played by Courteney Cox in the smash US comedy Friends.
When someone says something horrible about any of the characters from the US smash hit comedy Friends, we feel the same as if someone was having a go at one of our real-life buddies.
Over the years, we have grown so attached to the Friends gang, that we can't believe that anyone would ever dislike them.
Well, despite the show's huge success, former NBC West Coast president Don Ohlmeyerm had serious problems with Monica Geller (who was played by Courteney Cox) when he first saw the pilot and he went as far as labelling her a 'slut' and a 'trollop'.
Yikes - she may be a control freak and have an issue with mess, but we would never use those words to describe Monica!
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, one of the show's co-creators Marta Kauffman revealed that Don Ohlmeyer disliked Monica's relaxed attitude to sex. In fact, he was so offended by it, that he even imposed his views on test audiences as they watched the pilot episode in 1994.
When audiences watched the pilot episode, they had sheets to fill out and viewers were asked whether Monica was a 'whore', 'slut' or a 'trollop', after she is seen in the episode bringing back a stranger.
What's more, a new book called Inside the Rise and Fall of Must See TV, written by Warren Littlefield, also highlights Don Ohlmeyerm's distaste for Monica.
Mr Littlefield said: "It may seem hard to believe today, but in '94 we were playing in core-conceptual territory that hadn't been explored that much on network TV - young-adult relationships."
Mr Littlefield also highlighted that Don Ohlmeyerm wasn't a fan of Monica from the start and was especially annoyed when she spends the night with 'Paul the wine guy' and then he dumps her in one of the early episodes.
In her interview with Vanity Fair, Marta Kauffman added: "Don said that when Monica slept with Paul the wine guy she got what she deserved."
Well, Don Ohlmeyerm may not have been too keen on Monica, but we all loved her!

Whereas Joey was just a 'stud' right?
Sexist tripe. It's scary that this Don Ohlmeyerm creep was in such a powerful position. And shame on any female posters who argue over which girl was the 'sluttiest'. Get a clue.
erm werent they all sluts? they all slept around freely and had a relaxed attitude towards sex
and out of all the women i'd say that Rachel was definitely the sluttiest!
Mr Shaikh. No, it's not "the same reversed". You presume too much (once again). Most women don't give a rat's arse how many women men have slept with. Have you any idea how arrogant you sound? Why on earth do you keep banging on about the importance of men "respecting you"? Times have changed and men do not hold all the power in society now. It's not like 200 years ago when women were completely financially dependent on their men and dare not incurr their wraith.
Frankly, the people I admire in society the most are strong women: My mother, my sister.
I admire my Dad and my brother too, but not as much as I admire my mother and sister. Therefore I don't crave their respect so much as I crave my mother's respect. If I'd been found guilty of a serious crime - I'd worry about the effect it had on my mother, much more so than my father - because she has my ultimate respect.
Men are alright - they're just not the be all and end all. Sorry to break it to you, Mister...
You're not being honest with yourself Mr Shaikh. By 'people' you surely mean 'men who are terrified that they might compare unfavourably to a past lover'. Which is just sad.
You also assume that commanding the respect of a man is the be all and end all of any woman's life. I think I'm better qualified to judge what makes me feel good about myself.
Oddly enough - a line from 'Friends' seems curiously apposite right now:
No uterus - no opinion.
