We're so used to seeing Matt Smith riding around in the Tardis and battling aliens, that it's almost impossible to imagine him in any other role.

So, we couldn't help suppress our chuckles when we found out that the actor came close to starring in ITV's tack-tastic drama Footballer's Wives.

Try as we might, we just can't imagine Matt prancing around in a footy kit!

The Daily Mail reported that Matt's sister, Laura Jayne told them: "I had a friend who worked on Footballers' Wives so I covered Matt in fake tan, gelled his hair, made him wear salmon pink trousers and sent him for an audition."

We bet that Matt looked like one of the alien species that he encounters in Doctor Who after his sister was done with him!

Matt didn't get the part and his sister told the Daily Mail: "It's probably a good thing, that kind of look definitely isn't him."

Still, despite the fact we're glad that Matt landed the part of the Doctor in the BBC's smash sci fi show, we can't help but wonder how Matt would have fitted in with the Footballer's Wives cast...
