Bear Grylls sacked by Discovery Channel in the US

British adventurer Bear Grylls has been fired by Discovery Channel in the US over a contract dispute.
The star of survival show Man vs Wild - as it's known in America - has been dropped into some of the most hostile places on the planet since 2006.
Speaking on the subject, Discovery Channel in the US said: "Due to a continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, Discovery has terminated all current productions with him."
A spokesperson for Bear Grylls said he and Discovery in the US had been unable to reach agreement on new programming.
"Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery's decision to terminate current productions. Bear has loved the Man vs Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting edge content again soon for his loyal audience," a representative for Bear Grylls said.
The exact reason behind the dispute remains unclear. In the UK, Man vs Wild is broadcast as Born Survivor: Bear Grylls on the Discovery Channel UK.

Entertaining and informative yes! but he's never in any danger as the cameras are there, which means other people. Then into a helicopter off to the nearest shower and steak. Agree , that a real programme would be him and a camera, which he operates, dropped into the wild with the message..." see you in two weeks son".

I imagine that Discovery Channel were just tired of paying out for his hotel rooms while he was telling his viewers that he was 'roughing it'.
I don't see why he ever had to lie really, a lot of people, including myself, went off him after it came out that he wasn't roughing it at all.

About time discovery channel his was one of most dishonest progs on the channel. A full backup team field hospital and a presenter so arrogant I switched of almost before it had begun. Contrast this ego maniacs style with the other survival "experts" and you can see why they dumped him.
Please dont resurrect him on location location location or anything similar

The ,man is a fraud anyway there were reports of him staying in plush hotels at night when he was supposed to be roughing it in the wild.You only had to watch him for 5 miniutes to realise he knew squat about the wild.Ray Meards much more interesting especially when he re tracks in the footsteps of great j

I have nothing against Bear Grylls and a few other intrepid adventurers that we see on our screens,but how is it they always have necessary tools on hand to help them out,including camera men?

Man VS Wild IS Born Survivor and Discovery UK is Discovery US... So, it's up to another channel to help make a show with Bear. I imagine ITV would snap it up if they can afford helicopter rides into remote locations. :)

he claims to be acting out a survival plan of sorts if anyone happened to become stranded after a plane crash, getting lost, etc etc etc, however how many of us would really think to bring a rucksack with us after some kind of disaster that had made us end up in the middle of no where? for that matter how many of us would be allowed through customs etc with a knife like bear? or even a necklace that has a flint in it?
parachute cord how many would take any of that with us after a plane crash
? he has no injuries what so ever just like so many who end up in the middle of nowhere after an accident. its sooo funny how when he has to cross some kind of gap in the landscape that he always has exactly what he needs, an old bridge or an old mining bucket on a rope. etc also funny how he always goes into viper pits for example and always gets out the other end and that he never hits a dead end in the caves etc that he often visits.
he sleeps in hotels over night and fakes sleeping rough at night. he kills animals thats far too big for his needs so has therefore killed for no good reason really. he could not have been that good in the special forces if he is no longer with them. this man is a joke. i could do better than him and im disabled
bear grills is nothing but a joke really. if he was a true born survivor then he would do the programme properly warts and all. someone should break a few of his ribs at least then dump him in the middle of nowhere and see if he can make it out alive. he always goes in the right direction never gets lost or anything. watching him is just like watching corrie as you can tell its all make believe

I don't get what a lot of theses negative comments are about. Don't you realise that no TV or production company is going to let anyone do dangerous things without back up. health and safety abound, plus law suits.
It's just very entertaining TV that's all.
