Monday December 7: Life - BBC1, 9pm
Ninth of a 10-part documentary series narrated by the legendary David Attenborough and filmed in high definition using state-of-the-art techniques.

This week's episode of the superb documentary series looks at plants.

They have conquered every habitat on the planet by using ingenious strategies. Their lives are mysterious and hidden but its survival of the fittest at work.


Tuesday December 8: Russell Brand: Skinned - Channel 4, 10pm
He's managed to upset Rod Stewart, Bob Geldof, the Queen, George W Bush and Manuel from Fawlty Towers. But love him or loathe him, there's no ignoring Russell Brand.

Channel 4's bagged an intimate and revealing documentary about the inimitable comic, actor and bon viveur, featuring behind-the-scenes footage, stand-up performance and an in-depth interview with Frank Skinner.


Tuesday December 8: Paradox - BBC1, 9pm
The BBC's high-concept drama continues. DI Rebecca Flint and her team are alarmed to receive another set of seven images via space scientist Dr Christian King. This time the images suggest a violent attack on a woman and, with only 12 hours to prevent the assault, the team must work fast.

Comparisons to FlashForward cannot be avoided it seems. DI Rebecca Flint is played by Tamzin Outhwaite and Dr Christian King by Emun Elliott.



Wednesday December 9: Spooks - BBC1, 9pm

It's more thrills with the MI5 team as this latest series of the espionage drama continues. This week, with the country close to economic collapse, MI5 orders informant Ryan Baisley to hand over the details of accounts thought to hold more than £1 billion in illegal earnings, but he has other ideas.

Harry by Peter Firth, Irvin Perrot by Richard Durden, Ros by Hermione Norris, Ruth by Nicola Walker and Ryan Baisley is played by Ewen Bremner.



Wednesday December 9: The Family - Channel 4, 9pm
Channel 4 looks set to make another clan famous. The spotlight's on fun-loving British Asian family the Grewals as cameras document the universal themes of family life.

I'm loving this series. In tonight's episode, the show goes all UB40 on us; there's a rat in the kitchen. What are they gonna do? Well, Arvinder is forced to somehow get rid of the pest. Tune in for heartwarming stuff.


Thursday December 10: Gavin and Stacey - BBC1, 9pm
An Essex lad and his Welsh other half; they went from chatting each other up on the phone to getting married in the space of a few weeks. Tonight, Pam and Mick are in deep in discussions about the new conservatory. Meanwhile, Bryn is in his element as he awaits the arrival of his house guests; all the Essex boys are coming down for a big night out in Cardiff and having a sleepover at his place.

Stacey is played by Joanna Page, Gavin by Mathew Horne, Dave by Steffan Rhodri, Nessa by Ruth Jones, Dawn by Julia Davis, Pete by Adrian Scarborough, Pam by Alison Steadman and Mick by Larry Lamb. James Corden and Rob Brydon also star. Pam Ferris will pop up as Smithy's mum.



Thursday December 10: QI - BBC1, 9.30pm
One of the toughest quizzes on TV also has, arguably, the most bizarre set of rules and one of the most unfathomable scoring systems around. But Stephen Fry thinks it's all very straightforward. Then again, anyone with an IQ as monstrously large as his would...



Friday December 11: Mister Eleven - ITV1, 9pm

What's this new drama about? Basically it's a love triangle driven by one woman's belief that she will find happiness with her 11th lover. Ex-EastEnder Michelle Ryan stars as teacher Saz Paley; her love life is driven not by her heart, but by an obsession with numbers.

Saz is certain she has found the love of her life. That is, until she finds out that Mr Eleven is actually Mr Ten. Yikes! The cast includes another former EastEnder: Sean Maguire. Like Michelle Ryan, he has also starred on American TV. Star Wars fans, look out for Denis Lawson.



Saturday December 12: Cheryl Cole's Night In - ITV1, 6.30pm
Cheryl Cole stars in this one-off special. She'll perform songs from her new album and welcome various stars including Rihanna, Will Young and Alexandra Burke. Cheryl is also set to perform with will.i.am.


Saturday December 12: Strictly Come Dancing - BBC1, 6.45pm
The remaining dancing celebs will be doing their best to please the voting public as we hit the semi-final. One unlucky star will be voted off tonight - will it be your favourite? Your hosts are Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly.
★ The results show will be screened on the same day at 9.30pm


Saturday December 12: X Factor - ITV1, 7.30pm
It's the final! Who will be this year's Leona Lewis (X Factor winner with career still flourishing) and who will be this year's Leon Jackson (X Factor winner dropped by the record label)?

Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh have had their say on the singing star of tomorrow. Now it's the public's turn. Your host is Dermot O'Leary.

Saturday December 12: The British Comedy Awards 2009 - ITV1, 9.30pm
Jonathan Ross hosts the biggest event in the comedy calendar. Who will be voted Best Comedy Actor? What will win Best Sitcom? Will Outnumbered triumph? Get ready for a night of raucous entertainment.



Sunday December 13: I Dreamed A Dream - The Susan Boyle Story - ITV1, 9.30pm

Join Susan Boyle for an evening to celebrate her love of music in this special for ITV1. Featuring tracks from her album including Wild Horses, Cry me a River and I Dreamed A Dream, the show will be packed with special guests and surprises.
