2012 Emmy predictions: Homeland to beat Downton Abbey

The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards airs Sunday 23 September, and is hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who is a nominee as well. Yes, the host is also a nominee, much like James Franco at the Oscars. But Kimmel will be entertaining and actually has a shot at winning.
My Oscar prediction record is startling: I honestly don't think I have got one wrong in over 10 years. I was kicked out of an Academy Award party many years ago due to my predictions proving correct so tirelessly that it infuriated the host.
Why am I going on and on about my Oscar prediction track record for a piece about Emmy predictions? Well, because it's pristine, spotless, perfect. And my Emmy one - yeah, not so much.
Fact is, the Emmys can be big on repeat visits to the podium for folks. Real big. That makes it occasionally tough to call. They are also prone to nostalgia, to giving it up to the "sentimental favourite." Then there's the penchant for debut-season sweeps (which HBO's Girls can easily pull off this year, though I doubt it will).
That said, I have done my TV-addicted best to predict the outcome in the major categories here.

Homeland was an absolutly superb programme with a great cast, and a riveting story.

The climate of anti-Islamic paranoia in the US is bad enough at the moment without making glammed-up nonsense about servicemen being turned and becoming suicide bombers and deranged snipers, as in Homeland. First, the genesis of a suicide bomber isn't remotely like the events in the series, secondly we can't behave as if we live in some cosy studio land then be surprised when the real world comes along and kicks us in the arse.

This guys on crack if he thinks Homeland will win an award over Game of Thrones. Homeland is good, but Game of Thrones is just something else, and it helps that it has an incredibly massive and loyal fanbase.

Sorry, Homeland is a predictable TV series. The hero will die (in whatever series that is), but he will die in an heroic way that will save the embassment of the USA. If it was like 24 when anybody could be killed off then you would watch it for the suspense factor factor, but I have never seen anything deifferent to a normal US television series. I am not saying that the acting is not good, but the plotlines are weak. Why have an agent who nobody believes is telling the truth? Sorry but the show does nothing to get the pulse racing because the plot is both predictable and in many ways drawn out. Give me 24 anyday!
