After a successful first season on both sides of the Atlantic, Teen Wolf - a sexier and darker take on the 1980s movie which starred Michael J Fox - finally makes its UK return.

Centred around Scott McCall (actor Tyler Posey) as the teen wolf in question, this big, bad drama also starss Colton Haynes as Scott's arch-rival on the lacrosse team. Before Teen Wolf, the actor and model popped up in several series including CSI: Miami, The Hills, Melrose Place and Pushing Daisies. I sat down for a chat about the second season of Teen Wolf.

For anyone out there that hasn't tuned in yet, how would you sell the show to them, given that it's already been a movie?

Don't go in expecting it to be like the original movie; the people that first watched our show may have expected a campy version of the original.

Instead, go in expecting to see something that's a real interpretation of how kids are these days; it's really romantic and very gory. Our Teen Wolf is scary and cinematic due in part to our creator and our directors. They've made it really great. It's more of a Romeo and Juliet story than a campy Teen Wolf.

What can fans look forward to in the second season of Teen Wolf?

For the fans that have seen the first season, they'll know it's definitely dark. The second season is a lot more sexier and it's absolutely not your 80s Teen Wolf. Being on MTV in the States and on Sky Living here, they're able to push the limits and I think they definitely do.

It's not gratuitous, but kids these days are doing more crazy things than we were at that age. Teen Wolf is showing a real interpretation of how kids are these days. The second season is bigger, there are more special effects and it's great that everyone's invested in the show, and doing more for the fans because the fans have really rocketed the show to where it is now.

You play lacrosse team captain Jackson Whittemore; he's not exactly a nice guy. Do you think it's more fun to play the baddie?

It's really fun to play the bad guy. It's like, I don't have to pay for therapy - I can just go and yell at my cast members. I wouldn't recommend being friends with a Jackson-type to any kids that are watching though!

Did you learn how to play lacrosse for the role?

I should've learned how to play, but I am probably the worst lacrosse person that's ever been around. The stunt doubles do a lot for me because I can't make the lacrosse stuff look real on the show. The crew will just say: "OK Colton - come in, look mean and we'll do the close-up and you can go home." I wish I could play now!

I've got to ask about the antagonistic bromance between Derek Hale (played by Tyler Hoechlin) and Stiles Stilinski (played by Dylan O'Brien). Fans want 'Sterek' to turn into a romance - will it?

It's so funny that you ask that because so many people have caught on to this Sterek phenomenon! It's the bad guy versus the sidekick and they have to come together to save Scott McCall and what it's done is started this bromance, but it's also - for some fans - a sexual fantasy with these two characters. Our creator and people on the show send us photos of what these fans do with Derek and Stiles...

Oh my gosh, you've seen the slash stuff!?

Yes! They've made these two characters almost have a secret romance in a way, and the Teen Wolf people play to it in the show. As I've said, it's a sexy show so a lot of us had to get trainers for shirt-lift shots.

Well, the fans wanted Stiles to do shirt-lifts so in this second season, our writer wrote more towards that, but every time Stiles is getting ready to take his shirt off, a locker door will open or someone will walk in front of him - it's like a funny tease on the fans.

In Smallville, Christopher Reeve - the most famous screen Superman - made a couple of appearances. Will Teen Wolf try and get Michael J Fox?

I think they've tried and it's definitely not going to happen. He's done so many amazing things and we've heard that he's a bit tired of being recognised for Back To The Future and Teen Wolf instead of other really great projects. But we almost got Jason Bateman - who did Teen Wolf Too - to come and be our teacher. However, it didn't work out due to scheduling conflicts.

You auditioned for the coveted role of Edward Cullen in Twilight, but Robert Pattinson won the part. Have you seen it? Did you think you would've been better than R-Patz?

I did see the movie and I thought completely the opposite; he was the perfect acting choice for it. It's great that he's turned this massive fanbase into something positive. At one point, me, Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin from Teen Wolf were all being considered for roles in Twilight, but it didn't work out and now we have Teen wolf.

What would you personally like to see happen to your character this season?

That's a great question. What I wanted to see actually happened; this season, Jackson should be put into a mental health ward and that's all I can say. He definitely shows more than his cocky side this season, he's emotional and comedic, but he's also manipulating people. He's trying to continue to be the best, but he's willing to take anyone out, or get rid of anyone that he can, to be back on top.

There are loads of supernatural shows at the moment; what's different about Teen Wolf?

You're in for a major ride this season, let me tell you. This is not your first season Teen Wolf; I describe it as 'a sadistic supernatural circus'. Wait until you see it!

Teen Wolf, season two, airs on Sky Living from Thursday 12 July at 9pm
