Elementary is, to all intents and purposes, the US version of the BBC's Sherlock. It stars British actor Jonny Lee Miller (who found fame in Trainspotting) as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu (best known for Charlie's Angels and Ally McBeal), as Dr Joan Watson.

In the series, following a stint in rehab in London, eccentric Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare; a sober companion in the shapely form of Dr Watson.

Elementary is, basically, a police procedural with a crime-of-the-week for our crime-solving duo to crack. But how does it differ from Sherlock? And where are the similarities? We explore a few of them in this gallery.
