Downton Abbey is now in its fifth series; the Crawley family and their servants continue to deal with life's dramas.
Downton Abbey: rape controversy rages on
By penning a rape scene, Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes has sparked a storm of protest among fans. Anna Bates (played by Joanne Froggatt) was horrifically attacked by Lord Gillingham's valet Mr Green (ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman) while everyone else was enjoying some opera.
Julian Fellowes has defended the storyline, saying it was not done for sensational purposes, but to explore the emotional damage. Meanwhile, Joanne told BBC Breakfast: "I was really proud of the show for tackling a subject like this. It's a brave thing to do and I really do believe that Julian's written that in a way that is not gratuitous at all."
So what will happen now? How will Anna deal with this latest blow to her life? It appears no one's allowed to be happy for long in Downton Abbey - it's like EastEnders, but with better clothing.
