Downton Abbey returns to ITV1 off the back of a very successful third series (or third season, if you're reading this across the Atlantic). However, the question on everyone's lips concerns the future of Dan Stevens.
The actor has become famous on both sides of the Atlantic for his role as Matthew Crawley. He is reported to have not signed on as a regular for the forthcoming series in 2013.
Speaking on the subject, writer and creator Julian Fellowes told US publication Entertainment Weekly: "Sometimes actors feel they want to move on. If they don't want to come back, there's nothing we can do." To date, there has been no official confirmation either way.
What can viewers look forward to in the special airing on Christmas Day? Well, Dan Stevens' Matthew is very much in evidence. But take a close look at Lady Mary (played by Michelle Dockery)... is she pregnant?

I agree, Maggie Smith is pure quality and her exemplary portrayal of the Dowager Countess has me howling with laughter. I know a lot has to do with the writing but her delivery is amazing.

I think Dan Stevens should still play the part of matthew as Downtown has given him the fame he wantedand to beable to choose parts. he could still work in the USA.

I only watch Downton to see Dame Maggie Smith the lady is a brilliant actress she also excells in "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" she co stars with Dame Judy Dench another wonderful actress

Love Maggie Smith, she was great in the Secret Garden apart from hated her character as a child but I guess I was meant too, and loved her in Harry Potter she was excellent and played the character well.

Amongst an avalanche of dross this series is pure class. I live for part of the time in : Albi, France. we receive this programme among others on satellite, and our French, neighbours love Downton, very much. this series is a feather in the caps of the British, film industry. The French, are so jealous of our elegant woman that star in the series.

Looks like she is pregnant. Presumably the World's media will be camped on the lawns of Downton waiting for her to be rushed to King Edward VII hospital.

I feel a lot more could've been eeked out of the Ethel Parkes character (played by Amy Nuttall). I doubt any single mother was helped and taken in by the parents of the man that made them pregnant. Even so, I think the script regarding this character was very sketchy.
