Downton Abbey’s Lily James: ‘the costumes are beautiful’

Most young actors can only dream about landing a part on ITV's most talked about television show Downton Abbey, but for 23-year-old Lily James, it's her reality. One which even she can't quite believe.

In an Interview with InStyle magazine, Lily said: "When I first walked on to the [Downton Abbey] set, the cast jumped out from behind a door to greet me," she says, laughing. "It was a real 'pinch-me' moment."

Lily, who you may recognise from Secret Diary Of A Call Girl in which she played Poppy, is set to portray the Earl of Grantham's niece, Lady Rose, in the upcoming third series of Downton Abbey.

Despite being a newbie, Lily has quickly learnt not to let slip any juicy Downton gossip (much to our disappointment!) When she was asked about Lady Mary and Matthew's relationship, she replied: ""I think my tongue would be cut out!"

Lily was happy to talk about wearing her fantastic costumes on the show though; "The costumes are absolutely beautiful."

We'll just have to wait and see what Lady Rose will bring to Downton Abbey - we can hardly wait!
