The Doctor's best friend and travelling companion, Karen Gillan's Amy, is fearless, headstrong and independent. Sometimes referred to as "the girl who waited", she first met the Doctor as a little girl when he crash-landed in her garden during his last regeneration. Leaving her for what he promises will only be a moment, he returns to find her a grown woman on the eve of her wedding to Rory as he (typically) gets the settings wrong on his TARDIS.
