X Factor: Cheryl Cole's niece axed by show producers
All the latest news and gossip from The X Factor...
Cheryl Cole was a judge on the X Factor for three years and although she's returning this year to help Gary Barlow at Bootcamp, it hasn't helped her niece make it through.
The 21-year-old auditioned for X Factor judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger but failed to advance. Louis and Nicole thought she had what it takes but Nicole and Gary were left wanting and Gary's casting vote left her heading for the door.
Regardless of Melissa's 'will she, won't she' moment, it seems her audition will not be aired on ITV. She told The Sun, "I have no idea what's going on but it doesn't look like I am going to appear."
A family friend told the paper, "Everybody is angry that Melissa's audition has been scrapped. We can't believe it. She gave a really good performance and believed she would be featured in the audition shows."
"But after it was announced Cheryl was making her surprise comeback, it all went quiet. I wonder why that is? If anything, Melissa is a better singer than Cheryl. It's so unfair." Ouch!
An X Factor spokesperson said: "We film many more auditions across the country than we are able to show in our programme running time. In this case, Melissa did not make the cut – though we can assure you it had nothing to do with her aunty’s role in the show."
Melissa performed Cheryl Cole's Promise This, just in case you were wondering...
