X Factor's Marcus Collins subjected to racist and homophobic abuse

News from the world of X Factor

By Selena Ledgerton 24/11/2011 13:37

According to a report in The Sun, X Factor star Marcus Collins has been subjected to racial and homophobic abuse.

The contestant, said to be a favourite to win the competition, answered his mobile phone at 2.30am, only to be on the receiving end of the vile abuse.

The Liverpudlian - who is openly gay - was left in shock. A source told The Sun: "The voice on the other end of the line was just full of hate and spewed all sorts of racist and anti-gay abuse. He was saying, 'You don't deserve to be on the show. Who do you think you are?' and calling him every name under the sun."

Marcus has refused to call in the police, although he is said to suspect the caller may be a casual acquaintance, which would explain how the perpetrator obtained his phone number.

Marcus, mentored by Gary Barlow, is the favourite to win X Factor according to bookmakers Paddy Power, with odds of 15/8 on.

Is Marcus your winner? What do you think about the abuse he received? Share your view by leaving a comment.

What a shame this has happened. Poor Marcus, he seems like such a lovely lad. I can only think that it must be jealousy. I hope he can try to put this behind him & concentrate on the competition. I think he has a lot of talent & deserves to win.

Regarding Marcus......................he should contact the Police, it happened at 2.30 am in the morning.................disgusting, evil people who do this.  They are just jealous...........but this sort of thing can escalate, so stop it now, and change your telephone number, then give it only to family, otherwise it will get worse.

Marcus, you are brilliant and have a fantastic personality and a lovely smile.

You are a Winner and are fantastic on the stage and such a fantastic singer, an all round Star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Good luck!!!!!!!

He should be judged only on his singing performances, which have been consistently good.
I would like him to win, he seems a lovely young man to me.

Its  so sad that even though in this country we like to tell ourselves that we are liberal and accepting, it just shows yet again that homophobia and racism is alive, strong and still kicking in this country.
it makes me sick

what is wrong with people today this is 2011 not 1945 then maybe you may have a different view it should not matter what marcus does in his private life there are loads of gay famous stars today and aload more who hide and scared of being honest and open about there sexuality marcus is a great singer a great voice performer and at the end of the day this is what the genral public vote or pay to see them live in concert or buy there records or albums so think about other people in the music business who are either bi-sexual / gay we never moan or go on about them so give marcus a break as it is sick what is happening at the end of the day marcus is a great fun guy and a great singer with a massive future ahead of him if he wins or not so i say well get use to what marcus is as he is going to be around for a long time ahead good luck marcus winner or not you will go far for sure all the best for the future mate just wish people who think and do this just have no idea and lead a very sad boring life please grow up and get a life

You go for it son,be loud and proud and hold your head high.
Ignore the no-marks and concentrate on what you're good at.

those in Liverpool and the North West.
Good luck to you,I'll be watching, with eager anticipation on Saturday night.

How did you not know he was gay? I thought it was pretty blindingly obvious the second he stepped on the stage and started screaming! He's a fantastic singer but how on earth you couldn't tell he was gay is beyond me. Not that it matters, I think hes GAWJUS!

Any kind of abuse, verbal or physical, is obviously wrong and I wouldn't wish it on anybody. But, and i know I'm probably going to get a lot of abuse too for saying this, this smells of a very desperate publicity stunt. If it isn't then set an example and report it to the police! Moaning to the press won't make any difference.

He is by far the best performer with a fantastic voice. It's a shame that the X-factor has the 'make or break' aspect. If the judges don't spoil it for u, u can bet ur **** the general public will. Ok, Frankie didn't really deserve to be kept in. It was only the 300,000 silly **** on twitter kept voting him in. He'd be still there if he didn't get booted off. As for Misha B, her chances were blighted by Tulisa's bullying allogations and her junkie mum coming back into her life to scrounge money from her daughter's new found fame. If u put urself in the firing range of all these ghouls trying to get a piece of u for good or bad, don't expect life to be easy.  That's all I'm sayin.

see apparently this is big news that because hes on a tv show that it is all made to the publics attention. This sort of thing goes on everyday in the streets, schools, colleges and workplace and nothing is mentioned in the news!

Why hasnt any women posted the usual thing when this type of news appears? Ok then ill do it for you.

OMG!!!! what a waste!!!

I didn't realise he was gay either, but that doesn't have any baring whatsoever on his performance on X Factor, he is consistently good at whatever sort of music is chosen for him to sing.  He deserves to win, he is a really talented guy, and comes across as a really caring person, and is always appreciative of whatever comments the judges make, whether they be constructive or otherwise? - all the luck in the world to him, he deserves to be the winner - he 'shines' whereas the rest of them are as useless as each other!

As regards the 'waste of space' that called him on the phone, hope Marcus ignores it, and puts it down to the obvious ignorance of the 'being' responsible.

MARCUS TO WIN!!!!!!
