So long Sam and Sophie as The Voice: UK final 20 becomes 18
First results show of the series gives Will and Tom a difficult decision to make

The first results show kicked off with Team Danny and Team Jessie coming together to sing as a troupe. However, after an upbeat start it was down to business as the coaches got ready to cut two acts from the show.
“They have worked very hard, and they’re all great in their own right,” said Tom of his troupe. Talking about having to cut one of them from his team, he “hoped they don’t hold it against me.”
So as we came to the viewers’ votes for Team Tom, the first act saved was Ruth Brown –perhaps the standout of last night. As the results continued, it became clear that the bottom two were Sam and Matt and Sueleen – in truth, no real surprise there.
Will was also nervous about having to make a cut. In his team, Frances Wood was made safe first, followed by Jaz, then Tyler leaving Joelle and Sophie left to the mercy of their coach’s decision.
“You’ve got to say strong and focussed and believe in what you do,” was Sueleen’s reaction to finding herself in the bottom two.
Tom described all three as “great entertainers”, before admitting that he could only judge on “last night’s performance.” That meant poor old Sam became the first person to leave the The Voice:UK live shows. “This isn’t the end for me,” he said, in customary talent show style. The poor lad was clearly gutted at leaving. “I feel as sad about it as Sam does,” said Tom. “It was a hard decision...I’m sorry, somebody had to go, it was hard for me to choose.”
So it came to Will’s decision. “First off, I never really liked talent shows, but this show is special because every single person is really good, so I am proud of being on this show,” he said. He described both Sophie and Joelle as “special”, before choosing to keep Joelle and lose Sophie. Just as Sam had before her, Sophie took the news pretty hard, but was gracious enough to thank her coach Will and even give him a hug.
So our initial 20 is already down to 18 – did the viewers vote the right way? Did the coaches make the right decision? What would you have done? Share your views and leave us a comment.

I don't think you can honestly describe any of the singers as "rubbish", even though some are, of course, better than others. That's why it is called a competition.
The only person I have heard sing on the Voice who could not really sing is tonight's guest "star", Lana Del Rey. Awful. Though Will.i.am did not do really great singing in last night's show did he?
TEAM TYLER ALL THE WAY!! he may of already had a past break, but his voice is natural, and like a breath of fresh air, i really hope he goes all the way as he seems to be his own person, fresh ideas to make the songs his own, and is definatly not using his "friend " to big himself up. respect to the man after all his been through.
Ive followed him for years and to get yourself back up off the ground after a big confidence knock, respect to him. The standard is so high in the competition, just hope he keeps the standard high and just lets every 1 see the real tyler. Fantastic show, amazing choice of judges.
