How disappointing, but perhaps inevitable, to learn that The Voice UK's Ruth Brown has been subjected to abuse on Twitter about her weight.

 

The 20-year-old Londoner's powerful performances have seen bookies slash odds on her winning the BBC talent show.

But not even her status as an audience favourite has stopped diatribes about her weight from a minority of users of the social networking site.

 

The extremely personal comments included one that branded her an "ugly fat cow". Ruth highlighted some of the insults, then wrote: "Ok I'm big, get over it."

 

Hundreds of followers and fans sprang to her defence. In response, Ruth later tweeted: "Not gonna lie those comments did hurt, but I'm getting my dream and have amazing support thank you all."

 

Ruth Brown is an amazing contestant with the potential to go far. Her commanding voice soared above the highly unflattering styling (what were they thinking?), and that's the biggest testament to her talent.

Come on people lets not acknowledge anyone who posts a negative , I was brought up bullied by the one person who should have protected me, my nan gave me a good bit of advice 'if you ignore a bully and don't react they can't stand it'  - she was right, it was hard to ignore this person even when they tried to be nice for a response, it took a very long time before I got my apology,  the end came when I realised I'd stopped caring and I wasn't the one hurting. So lets support Ruth Brown, Jonathan Antoine and all the other shapely portly loveable humans and NOT give a response to bullies if you were sitting next to one and had to listen you would get up and walk away -  do the same now, we re-act to their comments they become important so lets walk it away..  give me a thumbs up against THEM!

I was brought up hearing "If you have nothing nice to say, stay quiet".   People nowadays seem to enjoy a quick gag at someone else's expense, and it saddens me.  Don't listen to them Ruth, you're worth a million of them :)

What is WRONG with some people????  Who are they to cowardly tweet abuse to a talented young lady?   All bullies should be banned from social networking sites - come on twitter & facebook, more action is needed, sooner rather than later.

Can she sing? Boy can she sing!!! And that's what it's about isn't it?
So she may be carrying a bit of weight. That can be changed but only if she wants to change it. If she's happy then that's fine.
And look at that face when she smiles, she's lovely. Whoever thinks that's ugly has a serious problem!!!

beautiful soulful voice, a radiant face Ruth is a revelation. The ugly ones are those who think that beauty is just a physical fhing. where is their inner soul!!

My dear Ruth you are big and beautiful and an amazing voice.. and I like you, your voice I will buy your music..So just like you said So what get over it..So many people out there nothing to offer to this world always find faults in others..Not realizing that is not the look that make the person is what comes out of their rotten Mouths that defines them..

personally i think she looks beautiful even tho i aint watched the voice on tv i just saw it on msn few mins ago and i thought that i should comment and here goes

 

i got a tummy and to be honest im gunna be sleeping warm tonight =) lol

 

and ms ruth brown is a beautiful woman who cares about weight

 

the old saying goes like this

 

"you are who you are"

 

this goes for everyone who has a bit of weight ignore the kids and the immature childish people they just jealous cuz us "fat people" are sleeping warm and they are not lol

leave the poor girl alone, they're are only jealous because they probably have as much talent as a sponge. size has bog all to do with anything. god made us in all shapes and sizes, if we all looked the same the world would be a boring place.

The only thing that is ugly here is the amount of jealousy. Perhaps all of those being horrible about Ruth should take a good look in the mirror. I bet she will be earning more than them in a few months time.

Ruth is a stunning singer she may be big but people get over it who cares about her size it is called the voice it is a singing show not an abuse show get over it Ruth is an amazing singer and will win the show!
