Aliona Out Of The Opening Show

Disaster strikes for last years winner!

We're very sad to hear the news that professional dancer Aliona Vilani has suffered a hairline fracture to her ankle. The injury, sustained during training with celebrity partner Johnny Ball, will see Aliona out of the competition for the next few weeks meaning she definitely won't be taking to the floor for next weeks opening show.

An official statement last night said:

"Aliona suffered a hairline fracture to her ankle today while training with partner Johnny Ball, that is putting her prospects for dancing in the first Strictly live show on 5 October on hold. Initial prognosis suggests our plucky pro-dancer may be out of action for the next 2-4 weeks, but a further appointment tomorrow will confirm her condition."

Last years winner Aliona quickly took to Twitter to post pictures of herself wearing an ice pack on her foot and having an x-ray, she also thanked fans for their support.   Fellow dancer James Jordan cheered Aliona up tweeting "One PRO down!!! Only 12 to go!!!"

There is no word yet on who will partner Johnny for next Fridays show but sadly it will mean taking a back step for him as he has to start rehearsals with somebody new with only a week to go.

Get well soon Aliona!
