Simon Cowell has thrown his fair share of insults around in the past – I’m surprised he didn’t run out of them long ago. Perhaps he sits in his Hollywood fortress at night, chuckling as he conjures up a list of put-downs?

Well, whatever his secret is, Simon outdoes himself in the latest promo trailer of The X Factor USA, where he compares one contestant’s singing to a ‘dog laying an egg.’ Genius.

The promo, which was recently aired in the States, then shows the said contestant having a tantrum in front of the live audience, before storming off. If that wasn’t dramatic enough (and the US version of the show loves a bit of drama) one hopeful is even seen being carted off into an ambulance while he whispers ‘don’t let Simon see me.’

Maybe he was subjected to hearing the ‘dog laying an egg’ guy sing?

Of course, on this year’s X Factor USA it’s all about Britney and she takes centre stage in the trailer.

Gone is the sickly sweet Pop Princess that we used to know and love-to-sing-in-front-of-the-mirror-to; X Factor Britters has no problems getting her claws out.

She cattily snipes at one contestant saying: “I wanna know who let you on stage.” Yikes, it really is Britney bitch. I love it.

Demi Lavato is relatively quiet in the trailer, although Simon does try to set her up with one of the contestants - Cilla Black better watch out, he'll be having his own dating show next!

The new series of The X Factor USA is set to be shown on 12 September in the US – no official word on when we’ll be getting a slice of the stateside action, but I reckon it won’t be long after. Hurray!

Surely Cowell has got to come out of the closet soon. All this camping it up looks so natural. Its as if he is easing his way out of the big closet he has built for himself !!
