Matthew Wolfenden wins Dancing On Ice 2012
It was the closest final ever but Matt snatched it from Jorgie in the battle of the Boleros
Matthew Wolfenden is king of the rink and the winner of Dancing On Ice 2012.
Following in the footsteps of previous winners Hayley Tamaddon, Suzanne Shaw, Kyran Bracken, Gaynor Faye, Ray Quinn and Sam Attwater, Matt nailed his Bolero performance and received 10's across the board for a sensational ensemble piece.
Head judge Robin Cousins commended him on his Singing in the Rain routine. “I have been waiting a few weeks to press that ten, you skated solo, you worked with props and you lead a professional ensemble on ice. It cannot and does not get better than that.”
Ice panelist Katarina Witt agreed, "It was mesmorising. I cannot think how good a professional skater you would be if you'd trained from being a small boy."
The judges loved the personality Matt brought to the ice but when it came to performing the Bolero it was all about the skills. Robin Cousins explained, "That is the most difficult Bolero we have had since the start of the show."
Runner-up Jorgie Porter also recieved full marks for her performance to Fallin' by Alicia Keys. Jayne Torvill compared her to 'a ballerina' but sadly it wasn't enough. Jorgie choked back the tears and smiled when the result came. "I'm just so happy for them!"
As the fireworks erupted, the Emmerdale star couldn't quite believe it. "It's going to take a few days to sink in. The first time I stood on the ice, I thought I'd made the biggest mistake of my life and I'd be a laughing stock... I couldn't even stand up very well!"
